It has often been retold that the people of Paykek, Pudong and Cayapes, Kapangan Benguet are descendants of the couple, Demot and Gayen.
Demot was a roving merchant from Tinek, Buguias while Gayen was from Kapangan. In one of his business trips to the lowland, Demot met Gayen during a canao at Salat, Kapangan. Smitten by her beauty, he wooed, courted and later proposed marriage to her. His proposal was accepted, thus they were married according to customs and traditions of the pagan way.
